SUMMARY:National Association of Social Workers: Neuro & Queer Influences In Clinical Supervision – 3 CEC
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 1955\, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world. NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members\, to create and maintain professional standards\, and to advance sound social policies. \nWe carry all of our identities with us into supervision\, as supervisees and supervisors alike. If we want to create and foster supervision spaces that are safe and affirming—spaces where both parties can show up authentically—we must bring awareness and intentionality to the process. \nIn this 3-hour workshop\, participants will explore topics including LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent affirmation\, executive functioning support in supervision\, and making space for supervisors’ own needs within the supervisory relationship. The training will also address common questions supervisors face about how to acknowledge and affirm LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent identities in supervision while maintaining appropriate professional roles and boundaries. \nObjectives: \n\nDescribe how affirming LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent identities can strengthen the supervisory relationship.\nIdentify strategies for incorporating executive functioning supports into supervision practices.\nIdentify ways intersecting identities\, including LGBTQIA+ identities and neurodivergence\, may influence supervision needs and communication styles.\nExamine how implicit bias and cultural context may influence supervisory dynamics.\nDescribe approaches for maintaining professional boundaries while creating affirming supervision spaces.\n\nThis program has been approved for 3.0 Continuing Education hours in Supervision.  NASW NH Authorization.

SUMMARY:The Academy for Community Behavioral Health: A Deeper Look at MI Skills: Open Questions: Intentionality and Precision in Practice
DESCRIPTION:The Academy for Community Behavioral Health\, part of the CUNY School of Professional Studies\, launched in June 2021 with funding from the Mayor’s Office of Community Mental Health and Mayor’s Office for Economic Opportunity. The Academy puts behavioral health tools in the hands of community-based organizations and others who have meaningful opportunities to start conversations and provide help.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis hands-on virtual workshop goes beyond foundational open question training to help learners develop precision and intentionality in using this core Motivational Interviewing skill. Participants will move from mechanical question-asking to strategic\, purposeful engagement that deepens the quality of their client conversations and builds stronger therapeutic alliances. \nWe will explore when to use and when not to use open questions. We will practice two advanced applications of open questions that are often overlooked in standard MI training: using questions strategically to provide direction in conversations\, and crafting specific questions that create space for deeper client reflection. Through multiple practice rounds with structured debriefs\, participants will strengthen transferable skills for your real-world practice. \nThis workshop is open to all who want to use open questions more skillfully\, regardless of your MI experience level. \nCOURSE OBJECTIVES\nParticipants will: \n\nIntentionally and strategically use open questions to move conversations forward rather than defaulting to them automatically\nApply open questions to provide direction when needed\nCraft specific open questions that slow client thinking and deepen self-reflection\nRecognize when open questions are being overused and identify alternative MI skills that may be more effective\nIntegrate intentional question-asking into daily practice with clients\n\nWHAT TO EXPECT\nThis is a highly interactive virtual workshop; most of the session will be spent in practice exercises and debriefs guided by the instructor\, with minimal didactic content. It emphasizes experiential learning through practice with real (not role-played) content. Participants will work in small groups in breakout rooms for multiple practice rounds with rotating roles. Participants should come prepared to practice skills with cameras and microphones on\, share authentic personal reflections\, and give/receive supportive feedback in their breakout groups. \nBecause this course is so interactive\, capacity is limited. Please only register at this time if you can commit to: \n\nAttend the full session\nParticipate on camera\nParticipate in small and large group practice activities and debriefs. This will require speaking using your computer microphone.\n\nIt is not possible to participate in this skill-building workshop off-camera or only via chat. \nELIGIBILITY\nAcademy courses are open to non-profit care providers who deliver social services or behavioral health care in New York City. \nThis includes\, but is not limited to\, staff of: community-based organizations\, government agencies\, and public hospitals\, along with members of mutual aid groups\, community gardens\, NYCHA resident committees\, and more. \nThis course is open to learners with any level of Motivational Interviewing (MI) experience\, including those who want to strengthen or refresh specific MI skills and those who are new to MI. \nLearners who complete this 2-hour course will receive a certificate of completion from the Academy.

SUMMARY:Addiction Technology Transfer Center: The Phoenix: Building Recovery Through Community\, Connection and Meaningful Activity
DESCRIPTION:The Addiction Technology Transfer Centers (ATTCs) play a critical role in advancing our nation’s health by equipping healthcare professionals and community organizations with effective tools to address individuals\, children\, and families impacted by alcohol and drug use. We build local capacity of the behavioral health workforce resulting in treatment that leads to long-term recovery and people\nbecoming contributing members of society as quickly as possible. \nSubstance use disorders (SUD) remain one of the most pressing public health challenges in the United States (US). Growing evidence suggests these challenges are deeply shaped by broader social and structural factors\, including trauma\, social disconnection\, socioeconomic inequality and declining community cohesion. Research has demonstrated that many individuals achieve recovery without formal clinical treatment and that long-term recovery is strengthened when individuals have opportunities to build meaningful relationships\, engage in purposeful activities and develop supportive communities in everyday life. \nThis webinar explores the role of meaningful activity\, social connection and community in initiating and sustaining recovery. Attendees will be introduced to The Phoenix\, a national nonprofit that has pioneered a free\, volunteer-led model of recovery support\, serving more than one million individuals across the United States. The Phoenix welcomes individuals in recovery\, those seeking a substance-free lifestyle\, and their friends\, family members\, and allies. \nThe webinar will also examine the growing evidence base supporting the Phoenix model\, including research demonstrating improvements in recovery-related outcomes\, psychological safety\, social connectedness and flourishing. Finally\, attendees will consider how these principles can strengthen recovery-oriented practice within their own settings\, including practical approaches for connecting individuals to Phoenix programs and applying community-centered\, strengths-based approaches to recovery support. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES \n\nDescribe the community ethos underpinning The Phoenix model\nIdentify practical pathways for connecting individuals with Phoenix programs\nSummarize the emerging evidence supporting The Phoenix model\, including research on psychological safety\, flourishing and supportive social networks.

SUMMARY:Addiction Technology Transfer Center: Building Integrated Care Teams for Co Occurring Behavioral Health and Substance Use Conditions
\nThe final webinar of the Integration of Behavioral Health in Primary Care series will explore how primary care\, behavioral health\, and substance use treatment providers can function as an integrated team to support patients with co‑occurring conditions. Participants will learn how to design collaborative workflows\, clarify team roles\, and develop shared treatment plans that address the complex intersection of mental health\, substance use\, and physical health needs. The training highlights best practices for warm handoffs\, care coordination\, and communication strategies that reduce fragmentation and improve patient outcomes. Emphasis is placed on trauma‑informed\, culturally responsive care that acknowledges the realities of co‑occurring behavioral health disorders and substance use in diverse community settings. Practical examples\, team-based scenarios\, and implementation tools will help participants apply integrated care principles in real-world primary care environments.

SUMMARY:The Academy for Community Behavioral Health: Foundations of Care: Part of Racial Equity and Trauma-Informed Care
DESCRIPTION:Foundations of Care is the first in a series of courses to prepare you to advance racial equity and trauma-informed care within organizations. Through co-design with a cross-section of NYC social service providers\, the Academy developed this course to help staff orient toward practices for acknowledging and mitigating the harms of persistent systemic inequalities – on yourselves\, your organizations\, and the communities you serve. Foundations of Care equips staff to protect themselves from stress and trauma impacts. If you have ever felt exhaustion\, a lack of motivation\, or cynicism; if there is a passion for the work that you no longer feel present to; if you have felt hopeless or helpless as you navigate changes – you are not alone. These experiences are common among care providers who respond to pain and injustice in their communities\, often with too few resources. Through this 4-week course\, you will gain tools to transform common reactions to stress; develop a personal praxis that supports your work; model healing practices for yourself and others; and connect to both small steps and broader visions for advancing racial equity and trauma-informed care.
These skills will leave you better equipped to navigate changing conditions\, respond to clients and staff in distress\, and lead from a place of compassion. Those who complete Foundations of Care will be eligible for supervisor courses in this series.

SUMMARY:What Healing Looks Like: Youth with Trauma Histories
DESCRIPTION:What does true healing look like for youth who’ve experienced trauma? This webinar explores one of the most well-established models in trauma recovery—Dr. Judith Herman’s four-stage framework—and brings it to life with practical\, real-world examples. \nWe’ll walk through each stage of healing with clear illustrations\, from how “Mourning and Remembrance” might show up in a young child who has experienced sexual abuse\, to how models like Seeking Safety can support teens navigating both trauma and substance use. Along the way\, we’ll highlight actionable system recommendations for frontline providers. \nThe heart of this session centers on two powerful truths: \n\n\nTrauma disconnects—healing reconnects. \n\n\nBeing seen and heard is the opposite of being traumatized.

SUMMARY:Handle with Care: Supporting Children After Trauma
DESCRIPTION:The International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA) is a professional organization formed in 1981 that focuses on enhancing the quality and effectiveness of law enforcement intelligence analysis. \nHandle With Care (HWC) is a multidisciplinary approach designed to support children who have recently experienced traumatic events\, also known as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). These events may include exposure to violence\, substance misuse\, mental illness\, abuse\, neglect\, or other household challenges. \nThe HWC strategy begins with law enforcement or first responders who encounter a child at the scene of a potentially traumatic incident. They then send a confidential notice to the child’s school with only the child’s name\, age\, school\, and three simple but powerful words: Handle With Care. No other details are shared. This allows school staff to be prepared to provide trauma-informed support\, without needing to know the specifics of what occurred. \nSchools are uniquely positioned to offer stability and care for children navigating trauma. With timely\, coordinated communication from first responders\, educators and school counselors can respond with empathy and awareness\, minimizing the impact of trauma and helping children build resilience. \nThis webinar will explore how Handle With Care can be implemented across various systems to create safer and more supportive school environments for vulnerable youth. Ideal for law enforcement\, school administrators\, mental health providers\, and agency partners\, the webinar will highlight real-world practices that ensure children exposed to trauma aren’t just seen—but supported. \n  \nBy the end of this session\, participants will be able to: \n\n\nUnderstand how trauma and ACEs impact children’s behavior\, learning\, and relationships. \n\n\nDescribe how schools\, law enforcement\, and mental health providers can coordinate support. \n\n\nExplore how to replicate the Handle With Care model in your own community.

SUMMARY:Engaging Innovative Approaches to Serving Crime Victims: Leveraging Peer Support
DESCRIPTION:The National Center for Victims of Crime is a nonprofit organization that advocates for victims’ rights\, trains professionals who work with victims\, and serves as a trusted source of information on victims’ issues. After more than 35 years\, we remain the most comprehensive national resource committed to advancing victims’ rights and helping victims of crime rebuild their lives. \nHistorically\, peer support programs have focused on mental health\, substance use\, and occupational challenges. At their core\, these programs create meaningful connections between individuals who have experienced adversity and those currently facing it.\n\nThe victim services field is now ripe for innovation through the peer support model. In many ways\, this has already been happening informally for years—particularly within underserved and marginalized communities. Survivors of crime often choose to work or volunteer in the field to support others walking similar paths.\n\nThis webinar explores how peer support is evolving within victim services—and how structured programs are building on grassroots practices to meet the needs of today’s survivors.
