SUMMARY:Stony Brook School of Social Welfare: Co-Creating with Parents/Caregivers of Youth with Mental Health Needs - 3 CEU
DESCRIPTION:The School of Social Welfare is committed to building a more equitable society based on the values of human dignity\, inclusiveness\, diversity\, equality\, and on economic\, environmental\, and social justice. \nDespite years of training and clinical expertise\, many clinicians and supervisors identify engaging parents and caregivers in a child’s treatment as one of the most challenging aspects of their work. Conjoint and collateral interventions are often rife with opportunities for mistrust\, feelings of inadequacy\, and resistance. As a result\, some providers avoid this work altogether. \nSuch avoidance can be detrimental — if not devastating — to a child’s treatment outcomes and long-term prognosis. Scaffolding\, an educational practice designed to support the retention and application of newly acquired knowledge and skills\, offers a powerful framework for clinical intervention with caregivers. \nThis workshop equips clinicians with practical tools and strategies to foster caregiver trust in both the clinician and the therapeutic process. Participants will learn how to support parents and caregivers in moving beyond their comfort zones\, increasing collaboration\, and effectively contributing to their child’s mental health treatment and healing.

SUMMARY:NASW: The Trauma Informed Social Worker: Principles\, Practice\, and Partnership - 2CEU
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 1955\, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world. NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members\, to create and maintain professional standards\, and to advance sound social policies. \nOn May 11\, 2023\, the Federal Covid-19 Public Health Emergency officially ended\, however\, some researchers argue that the full psychological effects of the pandemic have yet to be realized. The collective trauma associated with Covid\, further compounded by ongoing global conflict\, economic uncertainty\, and climate change\, create an environment ripe for the development of chronic disease\, stress\, and a variety of mental health conditions. As models for care and compassion\, social workers must be equipped to recognize and effectively respond to trauma in a supportive\, culturally responsive manner. This two-hour training provides clinical social workers with a comprehensive introduction to trauma-informed and culturally-responsive care. Participants will explore SAMHSA’s trauma informed care model\, learn practical evidence-based interventions\, and examine the biopsychosocial effects of trauma. This session will also explore strategies to enhance therapeutic engagement\, promote safety and empowerment\, and strengthen collaboration with interdisciplinary partners. Through interactive discussion and real-world examples\, social workers will gain tools and knowledge to integrate trauma informed principles into everyday\, clinical practice.

SUMMARY:The Joyce Foundation - Investing in community violence intervention strategies: new evidence from Illinois’ Government Alliance for Safe Communities
DESCRIPTION:The Joyce Foundation is a nonpartisan\, private foundation that invests in evidence-based public policies and strategies to advance racial equity and economic mobility for the next generation in the Great Lakes region. It promotes safe and just communities through grant making in the areas of gun violence prevention\, criminal justice reform and violence intervention. \nCommunity violence intervention (CVI) strategies are a set of non-punitive\, community-led strategies that are designed to interrupt the transmission of violence by engaging those at highest risk through the provision of individually tailored support services. Since 2021\, and in response to the rise in gun violence across the state\, the State of Illinois\, Cook County and the City of Chicago came together to coordinate and target public funding for CVI and other community safety investments. As of 2026\, that partnership – now formally known as the Government Alliance for Safe Communities (GASC) – has invested nearly $350 million in public resources for community safety. \nIn this webinar\, leaders from the GASC and the Center for Neighborhood Engaged Research and Science (CORNERS) at Northwestern University will discuss findings from a newly published impact evaluation. The conversation will explore where and at what scale public funds for CVI were invested\, and the GASC investment’s overall impact on community safety outcomes. Panelists will also discuss the findings’ implications for policymakers in Illinois and beyond.

SUMMARY:Northeast & Caribbean ATTC: Translating the Guiding Principles of Trauma-Informed Care in Practice
DESCRIPTION:The Addiction Technology Transfer Centers (ATTCs) play a critical role in advancing our nation’s health by equipping healthcare professionals and community organizations with effective tools to address individuals\, children\, and families impacted by alcohol and drug use. \nTrauma-informed care is an approach that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and takes steps to prevent further harm and empower wellness. This interactive learning discussion will inform on SAMHSA’s 6 guiding principles for Trauma-Informed Care. It’s more than understanding what trauma concepts are\, but about how providers can enlist the principles to create environments and connection by preventing re-traumatization and intentionally promote healing. The content will review how trauma-informed principles can be integrated in prevention efforts and engagement opportunities to support an individual’s wellness and recovery process.

SUMMARY:Northeast & Caribbean ATTC: Perceptions of Substance Use with Older Adults
DESCRIPTION:The Addiction Technology Transfer Centers (ATTCs) play a critical role in advancing our nation’s health by equipping healthcare professionals and community organizations with effective tools to address individuals\, children\, and families impacted by alcohol and drug use. \nStigma of substance use can impede appropriate and preventive care that is critical for older adults and their wellness. Biased perceptions of substance use can often dismiss health-related impacts of substance use and impede prevention efforts with the aging community.\nThe webinar will explore how stigma of substance use with older adults underscores the lack of screening and tailored prevention. Content will further inform and educate on age-related challenges that increase substance misuse\, medication adherence\, and person-centered brief intervention approaches.

DESCRIPTION:The Academy for Community Behavioral Health partner with social service providers to build more equitable and effective behavioral health care in New York City. The Academy strengthens the capacity of social service providers to provide trauma-informed services\, normalize compassionate conversations about behavioral health\, use relevant skills\, including to prevent\, identify\, respond to\, and care for mental health challenges and emotional pain. \nWhat does it mean to “meet people where they are?” Many of us want to support people with behavior change\, meaning we want to support them with decisions\, actions\, and habits that will reduce negative outcomes and improve their quality of life. This course will focus on how we support people who are considering or working toward behavior changes. We will focus on our intentions as service providers and develop skills to bring active listening into conversations with community members. \nWe will explore the link between self-compassion and holding space for compassion. We will also consider how we can embody the spirit of Motivational Interviewing (MI) by bringing acceptance\, compassion\, collaboration and evocation into our work. We will practice and strengthen skills for active listening.
