JTI Hosts: The Council of State Governments: National Inventory of Collateral Consequences

November 17 @ 11:00 am – 12:30 pm
Free
This webinar will use data and analysis from the National Inventory of Collateral Consequences of Conviction (NICCC) to explore the criminal history-based barriers to rights, benefits, and opportunities that are imposed by New York and federal law.  The webinar will also examine the various legal mechanisms that may provide relief for individuals impacted by these barriers, including record sealing; certificates of relief/good conduct; and fair chance employment and licensing policies.
Participants will gain an understanding of the extent to which state and federal policies impact the ability of people with criminal histories to work, access public benefits and services, obtain housing, and access educational opportunities.  Participants will also learn how to use the NICCC to identify individual barriers, how they operate, and who they impact.
The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center helps leaders in every state make communities safer and healthier. By combining trusted data, practical strategies, and cross-systems collaboration, we create second chances, reduce harm, and transform lives.  We help state, local, and community leaders in all three branches of government and practitioners across the country identify and implement data-driven solutions for complex justice challenges.
