“Nobody ever spoke to me like that before”: Improving Interactions Within the Justice System
A small group of New Yorkers keep cycling through the justice system without ever getting the support that could help them heal. Yet even the briefest encounters can become moments of care, connection, and real change.
This report shares insights from a National Clinical Roundtable hosted by MOCJ and CJI on how to make everyday system touchpoints more human, more therapeutic, and more effective for the people who need them most.

“One of the real advantages of therapeutic assessment is when we ask clients what are their questions, they get engaged. And we collaborate with them on the search for little answers..”
MOCJ Justice Programs combine evidence, practice, and humanity—strengthening skills while honoring the lived experience, cultural context, and goals of the people we serve.
